The Computational Science Cluster maintains a network of Sun/Solaris and Pentium/Linux workstations for use by its staff and resident students. Based on switched Fast Ethernet, this network includes a centralized Sun server which provides ample disk space for home directories as well as many software packages, web, email, and FTP services for the Cluster.

In addition, the Computational Science Cluster operates a large cluster computing system as a College-wide resource for computationally intensive academic computing and instructional activities. Known as SciClone, this system incorporates multiple subclusters and multiple networking technologies to provide a rich environment for scientific simulations, distributed computing experiments, and parallel algorithm development.

The SciClone cluster and the office workstation network share a gigabit fiber connection to the campus backbone, with rapid access to external sites via an OC-3 link to Internet2 and Network Virginia.
