SciClone Web BLAST is
a web-based interface to the NCBI BLAST
tools. It was created specifically for use on SciClone by Jason Miller
at INCOGEN. The web interface
allows the user to specify nucleotide or protein sequence data in FASTA
format (from either a local file or a "cut-and-paste"
text string), a target dataset, and the type of BLAST search to perform.
SciClone Web BLAST automatically creates and submits a PBS
job to perform the search, and returns the results in the browser window
when the jobs completes. Multiple windows can be used to submit multiple
searches in parallel.
Connect to SciClone Web
BLAST at http://ml00.sciclone.wm.edu:52880/.
Access is currently permitted from any host on the William & Mary,
VIMS, or INCOGEN networks, as well as any other "authorized host"
associated with an active SciClone account.
SciClone Web BLAST is
configured to submit jobs to SciClone's hurricane
subcluster (quad-processor C4 nodes), using 2 CPUs per job. Reponse
time depends on (1) how long it takes for each BLAST job to run, (2)
the number and duration of other jobs in the system that are vying for
C4 nodes, and (3) the I/O load on the file server. The runtime limit
for an individual BLAST job is currently set to 12 hours, but could
be increased if necessary.
SciClone Web BLAST is
maintained by Jason Miller (millz@incogen.com).
